✓ Expenses: every shared cost with who paid it. Split it by your rule, 50/50, or all for the other one, like a gift for their family. The file says who owes whom for each line.
✓ Split by income, each of you pays the same share of your pay, not the same dollars. Change the rule once, and every cost already logged is split again.
✓ Settle Up: the balance between you right now, what each of you paid against your fair share, and every Venmo, Zelle or cash payment you send to even it out.
✓ After each payment the check says what is still owed, or all square.
✓ Months: twelve months of shared costs, what each of you paid, the fair share and whether that month is settled.
