FAMILY BUDGET SPREADSHEET FOR GOOGLE SHEETS AND EXCEL

A family budget spreadsheet for parents who want to see what each child actually costs. It puts a name on every bill, club and purchase, so the cost per kid adds up by itself.
Works for one child or several, one income or two.

📊 WHAT IT DOES

✓ Family: one line per person; marking who is a child is what every cost-per-child number in the file is built on.
✓ Cost per kid: adds up every bill, club and purchase with a child's name on it, per month and per year.
✓ Childcare: compares the daycare bill with the income that pays for it, and counts down to when it ends.
✓ Activities: prices each club by what one session actually costs after the ones that got missed.
✓ School year: lists every back-to-school cost by its due date and shows what's still unpaid.
✓ Growing up: shows how what the kids cost changes over the next eight years as they grow.
✓ Kid money: tracks allowance, paid jobs and what each child is saving up for.
✓ Funds: divides costs you already know are coming, like camp or insurance, by the months left before each is due.

📂 WHAT'S INSIDE: 34 TABS AND 72 CHARTS

✓ Start with these: Home, Start here, Setup, Family, Income, Bills, Spending, Activities
✓ This month: This month, Budget, Groceries, Eat out
✓ Kids: Cost per kid, Childcare, School year, Kid money, Growing up
✓ Irregular costs: Funds, Birthdays, Holidays, Big buys
✓ Year in review: Months, Year, Categories, Per person

📝 HOW IT WORKS

  1. Open the PDF and click the link to make your own copy in Google Sheets. Or open the Excel file.
  2. On Start here, fill in the shaded cells: your name, who's in the household, your savings goal and the month your school year starts.
  3. Add each person on Family, mark who is a child, then add bills and purchases with that child's name on Bills and Spending.
  4. Everything else fills in by itself. Home shows what you've spent this month and what the kids cost so far.
