FINANCIAL PLANNER SPREADSHEET FOR GOOGLE SHEETS AND EXCEL

A financial planner spreadsheet for anyone who wants to track net worth, not just monthly spending. You type in one balance per account and debt each month, and the file works out the rest.
Covers net worth, retirement contributions, insurance and a freedom number built from the costs that outlast your job.

📊 WHAT IT DOES

✓ Net worth: everything you own minus everything you owe, updated from one snapshot a month.
✓ Growth: splits the change in net worth into what you put in, what the market did and what a revaluation changed.
✓ Contributions: how much tax-free room is left this year in the accounts the tax code only lets you fill once.
✓ Freedom: the savings number built from the costs that are still there after the wage stops.
✓ Composition: the same net worth split into what you could reach this week and what is locked up until later.
✓ Next dollar: eleven steps in order, read from your own numbers, so you know where the next dollar should go.
✓ Allocation and Fees: how far your portfolio has drifted from target, and what your fund fees cost each year.
✓ Benchmarks and Coverage: how your net worth and insurance compare with rules of thumb you set yourself.
✓ Payoff or invest: compares a debt's interest rate with your expected return, one debt at a time.

📂 WHAT'S INSIDE: 37 TABS AND 74 CHARTS

✓ Start with these: Home, Start here, Setup
✓ Describe it once: Accounts, Assets, Debts
✓ The page you type into: Snapshots, Income, Yearly costs
✓ The number itself: Net worth, Trend, Growth, Composition
✓ How you compare: Milestones, Benchmarks

✓ Protecting it: Insurance, Coverage, Documents
✓ Deciding: Next dollar, Payoff or invest, Decisions, Review
✓ Keeping it going: Check-in, Notes, Catch-up, Read me, Free gift

📝 HOW IT WORKS

  1. Open the PDF and click the link to make your own copy in Google Sheets. Or open the Excel file.
  2. On Start here, fill in the shaded cells: your name, your age and how many people live on this money. Set the rates for investing, safety net, debt and insurance.
  3. Describe your accounts, assets and debts once on Accounts, Assets and Debts. Then add one row to Snapshots every month with the date and each balance.
  4. Everything else fills in by itself. Home shows what you are worth, your last twelve months, your savings rate and your safety net.

💻 GOOD TO KNOW

✓ Works with a free Google account. No add-ons, no subscription, no bank connection.
✓ Type only in the shaded cells. Formulas are protected, so you can't break them by accident.
✓ Best on a computer. The Google Sheets app works for quick entries on your phone.
✓ Amounts show in dollars. The formulas work the same in any currency.
✓ The Excel version may look slightly different from the photos (fonts, colors, charts). The photos show Google Sheets.
✓ English only. Not made for Apple Numbers.
✓ Free updates for life.
